About Ellen Jacobs

Ellen Jacobs finds inspiration in textures and shapes in the natural environment. She paints with water-based media such as acrylics, inks, and watercolor. Ellen creates color, shape, collage and textures by pouring, spraying, or brushing media in combination with lace, stencil, rice paper, screen and cutouts. She also experiments with laying textural materials in wet media to create a sense of depth.

Ellen's greatest influence was her mother and her love of colorful fabrics, which she used to design clothing and home furnishings. Ellen has also benefited from studies with excellent artists like Cecil Howard, Maxine Masterfield and Virginia Cobb, as well as her association with the vibrant art community here in Santa Fe.
